about

A favourite song of Cam’s from back in the days of The Cateran. “Obviously I’m biased as hell, but I still think The Cateran were a hugely underrated band. People assumed we were just a hardcore punk band, but there was always a lot more going on with our songs than met the eye. I kind of like that our stuff was never reissued beyond the initial vinyl versions but I still think the songs stand up, even after all this time. Amy and Iain take Cage in a totally different direction but the quality of their playing makes it feel like it could have been written for them. Beautiful fiddle-playing from Amy, some equally impressive mandolin and banjo from Iain, and with the bonus of some additional vocals from them both.”

lyrics

It ran for years but these are cold days now
And in this cage I take the sun
Safe on the sill
These were my days until you came
These were my days until you came

Love to torment me
With your wicked hook nails
Telling me it's a lover's caress
And all that you say is true
Well more or less
Well more or less.

Maybe a bird could one day fly from you.
This cage is safe but I can't leave
Be free from you.
Will I ever get away?
Do I want to get away?

Love to torment me
With your wicked hook nails
Telling me it's a lover's caress
And all that you say is true
Well more or less
Well more or less.
